BOB THE DOG AND JOSIE THE CAT

The last few weeks Brad has been focused on creating a new animal series. He hopes to turn these paintings into greeting cards and mini prints! Below is the process behind the painting of Bob the Dog and Josie the Cat.

I looked up lots of animal photos on the iPad and I chose this one because she looks cute. I thought 'that one is cuter.' I did a sketch, then I coloured it and put a border on. I added lines onto the ears, then I put fur down onto the chest area and then painted the eyes in. The last step was to make around the eyes darker. This one is a girl and the grey dog is a boy. She has a happy personality, you can tell by the tongue. If a dog pokes their tongue out, they're happy (or thirsty!) This dog is very cute. I used to have a chihuahua, he was very naughty. Billy his name was.

I was with Sian for my walking club at Scarborough Beach and here comes the same dog as this one I painted! The same colour, the same hair, the same dog!

The cat looks a little scary. I looked at it on the iPad, I drew it on the paper, and the I painted the face, the ears, the body. I used short 'flicky' details. I like doing the fur, though sometimes it gives me a headache and I need a break. This cat looks grey but I noticed a touch of brown on his face. He hasn't got his tongue out, but his eyes are wide open. My favourite parts to paint were the the ears, the eyes and the nose, those shapes were fun. The dog was happy, but this cat is cranky, I think because there's another cat right in front of him.

Today was absolutely fantastic, I finished the dog and the cat!
