THE THREE LADIES ARTIST STATEMENT
After months of hard work, Brad has completed his Three Ladies Series! Meet Julie at the Dress Shop, June at the Office and finally Joyce at Brad's Cafe! Congratulations to Brad for completing this big project, one which really showcased his narrative, character and background skills. To celebrate Brad enjoyed a game of Bird Bingo with Yvonne and Ali, then sat down with Ali to chat about the process of creating these three pieces.
I feel happy that I've finished the three of them. I cut these three ladies out, I stuck them on three pages. This one is an office manager and a boss - she's a very good boss, she's very nice to her workers. It was hectic adding in all the details of the building windows. This cafe one - she's the boss of me, I'm the barista. It says Brad's Cafe here. I added you (Ali) coming into the cafe and I also looked online for pictures of cafe spaces. Lucky last, she's the manager of the store and she has clothes folded all the way around the back wall.
For these three, I've been mixing my own colours. I've been using titanium white to mix with other colours, it's a strong white and it stands out. The hard part was in the cafe, the floors and table are nearly the same colour, so I had to go over the table and make it darker. I needed to add something outside the window, I thought - when I go to a cafe, there are chairs outside! Just painting them was really fun.
My favourite painting was the store, "Julie the Boutique Manager" (That's my sister's name - Julie) The folded clothes and plants were hard because I wasn't sure how to paint them onto the shelves. I love the colours. I love the hats, I did them really well.
