BRAD’S JOURNAL
Brad’s journalling practice is a central component of his storytelling work. His journal captures memories of events and meaningful times in his life. There is no limit to what Brad can include in his journal - the contents range from writing, drawings, photos, stickers, flyers tickets, business cards, pictures, icons and symbols. Alongside these collages, Brad will add dates and labels of the people or events pictured. These can all help him to recall and enjoy these memories and share them with family and friends! Brad initially began this practice with Clare of Mulberry Cottages and is now being continued on with the guidance of Yvonne, Brad’s art therapist.
I started making my first journal with Clare. She said, “Do you want to make a journal?” And I said, “Yes.” Clare would write out the captions based on what I tell her about my life. Clare also came up with alot of the jokes. We’d cut up and stick pictures in the book. I feel happy when I look at my journal. Brad points to a photo, “This is my mum. I lived with her all my life. My mum had a bubbly personality. Just amazing.” Brad turns page to a new spread. “I got the best scores in bowling this day. I even got a certificate.” Brad points to a different photo. “This is Eamond, my best friend. He gave the best hugs.”
