ARTIST STATEMENT: JULIE THE BOUTIQUE MANAGER
Julie the Boutique Manager is the second installment in Brad's new series, The Three Ladies. Brad began the series by using collage, the three were originally on a single page but Brad decided to cut each one out and stick them on seperate pages. This project has really sharpened Brad's background and narrative skills, as he creates the environment of each.
I stuck her on and put her name on the back. The way she is dressed made me think she worked in a boutique. Then I went on the internet, typed in 'clothes shop' at the top and I chose the one I liked. Then I drew the people and mannequins in. The mannequins were hard to draw because there were two different types of models. One has legs and one doesn't! Drawing the hair bun was also hard, because it's a tiny shape. But we bought some tiny brushes and they work fantastic.
The next one (Joyce the Waitress) is coming along ok. I'm drawing Ali now in the cafe, it looks like she is lying down and slouching! Then I'm going to draw myself as a barista.
